BI Interconnected – Programme Description

Segment 1:

**Annabel Mackenzie, RST, BI-D, Canada
Understanding Jean-Pierre Barral’s Evaluation Process
Listening and knowledge of anatomy are the foundation of good treatment results. During this section of the series, participants will gain a better understanding of how these two concepts lie at the heart of Barral’s evaluation and treatment processes.

**Roberto Bonanzinga, DO, BI-D, Italy
Feel First, Think After
The patient’s system will be our guide during evaluation and treatment. While working live with a new patient, Roberto will share the approach to determining the Barral modalities applicable to the patient. He will discuss compensatory patterns found during the evaluation process and the resulting changes after treatment. This presentation will switch between the hands-on practice and the explanation on the whiteboard, and will include PowerPoint images concerning the anatomy of reference.

**Gail Wetzler, PT, DPT, EDO, BI-D, United States
Clinical Application of the Evaluation and Treatment Process for Specific Diagnoses
As the patient continues to be our guide, they often come in with a previously detected diagnosis. Is the diagnostic region the primary or a result of compensatory tensional forces versus tensions forces? During this presentation, Gail will present three patients with different diagnoses. Working live, she will follow “what the tissues know” with each patient to guide the treatment process.

Segment 2:

**Alison Harvey DC, AK, CST-D, BI-D, Scotland
The Interconnections of the Abdominal Fascia
Discover the connections of the abdominal fascia and the relationships it creates. By considering the communication created by the fascia, not only with the abdominal organs but with the body in its entirety, we can understand the wider implications of tensions in these tissues and how Visceral Manipulation may affect them.

**Damian Kitcheman DO, CVTP, New Zealand
Embryology of the Fascia of Toldt and its Application to Colon Function
Through a deeper knowledge of the embryological development of the gut, you will develop a greater understanding of the abdominal organs, their positions, orientations, and in particular, the types of peritoneal attachment to the internal body wall. Key stages during weeks four, six and eleven of embryological development will be explored with the primary purpose of relating them back to the adult form.

**Joanne Enslin-de Wet PT, BI-D, South Africa
Fascial Crossroads at the Thoracic Inlet and its Effect on Shoulder Girdle Function
Explore the anatomy of the thoracic inlet with a special emphasis on what lies beneath the sternoclavicular joint. This presentation will illustrate how this specific fascia influences the functional aspects of our pressure system by sharing patients’ pre/post treatment spirometer and blood pressure measurements.

**Wrap Up with Gail Wetzler
At the end of June 6th presentation, Gail will bring the BI Interconnections series to a close with some take home messages that incorporate information from all six presentations. These key points will further assist with clinical reasoning and inspire the participants toward further learning in advanced manual therapy interventions.
