This course is based on the clinical experience of Renzo Molinari and will allow the participants to apply a logical, efficient clinical approach to all patients consulting from the moment of conception to the post partum period.

AT Still was always reminding his students that when looking at the labour you should concentrate on the normal, as it is a physiological process.

This course will follow this idea, because when you know the normal, you will automatically recognize the abnormal.

This course is presenting many tests and techniques that have been designed or adapted to the pregnancy and post partum period.

This course is absolutely necessary to develop a real Obstetrical Approach in Osteopathy.

A detailed description of the course:

The first part of the course looks at the adaptation to pregnancy - mechanical and visceral - and allow from the start to understand many of the problems happening during the pregnancy and their solution. The body goes through a series of miracles, unbelievable transformations, adaptations and some clinical signs must be recognized as they allow to organize our treatment.

The Optimal positioning of the foetus is a necessity and we will look at tests and techniques allowing to give a better prognosis of labour.

The mechanical adaptation will allow us to review the balance of the lumbo-pelvic area and some tests and techniques will look at the lumbo-pelvic area.

We will then focus on the hip and its important link with the viscera of the small pelvis. Specific tests will allow us to assess the centering of the hip and techniques developed by Renzo Molinari will allow an immediate change.

The course will then progress in the analysis of the thoraco-lumbar fascia and its functions relating to pregnancy and post partum. This important level will require specific tests and techniques.

Specific tests allowing a prognosis of labour but also the elaboration of a treatment plan will be presented, demonstrated and practiced.

After this first part, the analysis of a normal labour will allow us to understand what are the crucial points to assess and treat.

The rotational factors will be analysed and tests and techniques will look at the active rotational factors.

Some important muscular levels will be analysed in an obstetrical way: the couple diaphragm-psoas, the piriformis and the obturator internus and then the levator ani will require all our attention.

The pelvic floor tests and techniques will allow the participants to understand the importance of preparation and some Still techniques to protect the perineum and avoid episiotomy will be presented.

This will lead us to the post partum period and its approach. A brief presentation will present the impact of the different kind of labours of the baby system and this will allow to differentiate two types of dysfunctions : foetal somatic dysfunctions and obstetrical somatic dysfunctions requiring totally different approaches.
