Alison Harvey

Alison trained as a chiropractor following her own chiropractic treatment. She was impressed by the natural, holistic methods employed by chiropractic and the focus on the prevention of further health problems.

After 5 years of study at the Anglo European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth, Alison graduated with a BSc (Hons) and MSc chiropractic. Alison was also awarded the Holm Award for the female with the most holistic approach to patient care. After her studies, she decided to work in Surrey and West Sussex in natural health centres, to widen her knowledge of complementary medicine, before returning to her Scottish homeland to start her own practice in Ayr in 2002.

Alison has also trained in Applied Kinesiology, a technique based on muscle testing which allows other natural therapies, such as vitamin and mineral advice, to be incorporated into chiropractic care. Having passed her clinical competence examination, she trained in the “Sunflower Method”, a training in the treatment of children with learning difficulties. During her time in Surrey, Alison was one of five practitioners involved in treating children who were patients on a research project into the effectiveness of the Sunflower Method. She has also worked with brain damaged and physically disabled children.

Since graduation, Alison has become interested and trained in CranioSacral therapy. She finds this a very useful tool for treating certain conditions and also when working with pregnant women and children. She is an instructor for the Upledger Institute in CranioSacral Therapy and teaches classes internationally on a regular basis.

Since 2002 Alison has also been training in Visceral Manipulation through the Barral Institute and is increasingly using this with her patients. She finds this further increases her scope of practice and means she can work with people with conditions that do not usually resolve with chiropractic care. She is the only UK instructor for the Barral Institute and runs the UK branch of the Barral Institute, bringing visceral manipulation to the UK.

Alison has also done training in the treatment of pregnant women, babies and children and hopes to continue treating all age groups in the future.
